Kukris and other knives made by Heritage Knives are firstly tools;
a device or implement, especially one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function. Secondly a weapon;a object designed or used for inflicting bodily harm or physical damage, used in fighting, war or against someone.
Our Blades are made for daily use and include military and utilitarian functions.
Our Kukris, knives and blades tell a story through our timeless and time proven design, materials and focus on quality. Heritage Knives follows the appraoch that Quality products are made with quality raw materials, superior knowledge and fine skills.

Our Steel -
At Heritage Knives we use only high quality knife steel (high carbon) from various International manufacturers which we import. We have never and will never use secondary steel that has been used and abused for years like most companies around here. The reasons for using steel we know what it is goes without saying.
We treat steel and raw material with respect and carefully source our material, the quality factor has to be there from the very start of the making process. We ensure the best raw materials and skills are used in each stage because we take pride working with our hands and brains.
There is a fine line between the art & science of making a fine knife and it is our duty to combine these factors in what we do to make an honourable living and a great blade for you!
Heritage Knives have chosen to use only high carbon steel as blade material from a practical and historical point of view. Utilitarian tools such as, Kukri´s and knives have throughout history always been made with high carbon steel or a mixture thereof. High carbon steel is a tough and long-lasting steel which allows a sharper edge and retains an edge better then Stainless. We prefer to stay true to the craft and use only high quality raw materials in our work.
Steel from India, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Sweden, USA and other countries is used for our blades.
Leather, Wood, Other metals –
Most of our sheaths are made with Himalayan wood which has been covered in local leather from the hills and villages of the eastern Himalayas. The leather is usually made from Water Buffalo and occasionally Cow or Ox.
The last two animals holding a special role in Nepalese society, which is largely based on Hinduism, holds the Cow holy and thus creates some social taboo of products made from Cow and Ox.
Heritage Knives uses high quality international grade steel to forge, locally sourced wood, horn, leather and metals in our work. We combine the best of the East and the West to make our blades what they are.
Our blades are always properly quenched, heat treated and given the care they need as per the steels requirement, quality is not only a word but a result of combing the best materials with skilled craftsmen who have the knowledge to produce what some say are the best blades in the Himalayas.
Even with the best steel available all metal will corrode through time and why your care is needed to maintain it. Any steel can be broken if enough pressure is put on it. Please read our Care instructions before and after using your blade!
If used regularly and with proper care and consideration, you should only have to put your knife/Kukri on the sharpening stone once month or if using a sharpening steel once a week, if you use your knife for what it is meant for. In field it is also easier to put an edge on high Carbon steel then on Stainless, this matters for us as our customers are users more than anything else.
